We all want sounds to be as clear and crisp as possible. Just for that, I got myself a Zoom F3, compact, 32bit float recording, the works. It could do with combo inputs, but I can live with XLR-only as well.

Then comes the placement of the rig. Since it doesn’t come with mics, it’s necessary to get some. Then a small tripod/stand of some sort, the cables and you’re off to the races.

Last time I presented you with some Dominican Republic ambience. Now it’s the time for the birds to speak. The last time I saw an egret in the wild was in Manitoba, a few years ago. Getting close to them was near impossible. Their eyesight seems much better than mine. They usually were on their way out before I even spotted them.

A little while ago, I went on a small one-week vacation (don’t we all like that to be months, not weeks?) to the Dominican Republic.

The last few weeks have been busy. Not in the least with preparations for a little vacation. Two years ago, we spent a week in the Dominican Republic. While some people will balk at the idea of “all-inclusive”, it’s hard to beat in terms of rest and recuperation.

So while I was there, I obviously wanted to record the ambience in the early morning. Even at 6 AM, there were already a lot of people about.

A few years ago, I recorded some wildlife in Birds Hill Park, close to Winnipeg, MB. During that day, I was surprised by the frogs that were singing their cold hearts out. So I decided to come back in the early morning in order to avoid the inevitable traffic.

This track contains most of the Bullfrogs, along with some Canada Geese, always fighting for prominence in either pictures, in parks or in sound recordings.
