The Thunder Cave at The Ovens Natural Park in Nova Scotia is not a real cave. Just a hollowed-out rock by the sea. Waves that come in there crash into the end of the cave, resulting in sometimes explosive roars. Hence the name.

The sound is really great in there.

Too bad I only took my Zoom H6 with the X-Y mics with me. My external mics might have done a better job, but I haven’t made any wind shields for them yet.

This is what the cave sounds like on a quiet Sunday morning with no visitors around.

The water was dripping from the rocks overhead, while the waves were pounding the far end of the cave.

Until next time…
